The Brülosophy Show: Floating Dip Tube vs. Regular Dip Tube For Clear Beer | BrüTech

When beer sits in a keg, bits of yeast, hops, and other particles tend to sink to the bottom, forming a layer of sediment. The standard Cornelius keg uses a tube to draw beer from this bottom layer, where it’s most likely to pick up these particles. On the other hand, the top of the keg holds the clearest, cleanest beer, because it’s farthest from the sediment. A floating dip tube is designed to draw beer from this top layer, making sure you’re getting the clearest beer possible. So how well do they work? Martin is putting this to the test by brewing up a batch of American Light Lager and splitting it between two kegs, one with a floating dip tube and the other with a regular dip tube. Will the floating dip tube lead to clearer beer?

  1. Problem i had with floating dip tube in a small keg like a 5gal corney was that the tubing gets tangled as the leg empties and then it holds the dip tube out of the liquid. Then your faucet pushes nothing but gas.

If you shorten the tubing to about 4″ it keeps the dip tube off the bottom, but still in liquid all the time

Thays Nice Man! But pulling from secondary is easy! Im trying a different aproach which consists on pulling the beer directly from the primary fermentor, using the floating dt.
Im calling this as The laziest beber. I use 2 kegs to ferment (the only way I can do because I haver a small Chamber). So I transfered one to a secondary and kept one in primary, after cold crash and added gelatin to both. Beers still “lagering” for a while, but are coming lite clear!! Nothing to say about flavor which is coming fine from both.
(Excuse me for eventual tipping mistakes. I regulary tipe in portuguese and my cel doesnt get It hahaha).
