Hop choice can make or break a Hazy IPA, hence the importance of selecting the right ones. This week, we go over 5 varieties that work exceedingly well in this style, backed up with Brülosophy tasting data, then reveal the 3-hop combo that Yakima Valley Hops describe as “the cheat code for brewing the perfect hazy.”

While I enjoy and respect Brülosophy, I find it is often American centric. Personally I am not a fan of American IPAs because they are basically carbonated hop tea with a weak malt backbone. Love to see a companion show about English IPAs. EKG, fuggle, northdown, N brewer….
That sounds dumb Bruce.
I would add that the extreme bitterness has also been a failing. Balance is the watchword but my countrymen seem to run to extremes in their exploration of this space.
But those English hops all taste like grass…?!
It’s a kids drink that deserves very little time on the main stage.
Great choices presented in video. Two other hops to consider: Simcoe and Amarillo. Although not a hazy, Matthew Herrold from Mean Brews, offers an award winning American IPA recipe using Simcoe, Amarillo and Citra.
No New Zealand hops? Disappointing. I recently made an all nectaron hazy that was amazing. Then I made another with 5 NZ hops. Turned out even better. I honestly think these hops will make better hazies than American hops.
