How long can you keep hops in your freezer until they start to go bad? To find out, we brewed two American Pale Ale batches where one received fresh Cascade hops harvested in 2022 while the other was made with Cascade hops that’d spent 6 years in the freezer. Can tasters detect a difference? Let’s find out!

Hi folk, great test this one and a subject surely close to the heart of every brewer. The thing is that many brewers will open the sealed hop bag, use some of the hops and then re-seal the bag rolled up tight maybe with an elastic band and then re-freeze. One wonders how the hops fare once re-sealed in this manner?

Ian (NZ brewer)
